About TBAE

The Texas Board of Architectural Examiners is a multi-profession regulatory agency that oversees the examination, registration, and professional regulation of architects, interior designers, and landscape architects. The agency was created in 1937 by the 45th Legislature in the aftermath of the New London School explosion in which 295 students and teachers were killed.

The agency carries out its duties and responsibilities as outlined in Subtitle B of the Occupations Code, Chapters 1051, 1052, and 1053. Board members are appointed by the Governor of Texas and confirmed by the Senate. Learn More about the Board and its members

The day-to-day activities of the agency are carried out by the staff, headed by an executive director who is hired by, and serves at the pleasure of, the Board.

The mission of the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners (TBAE) is to serve the State of Texas by protecting and preserving the health, safety, and welfare of the Texans who live, work, and play in the built environment through the regulation of the practice of architecture, landscape architecture, and interior design.
